DIRECT FLIGHTS FROM CHINA TO HONOLULU!!

FIRST REGULARLY-SCHEDULED DIRECT FLIGHT FROM CHINA WELCOMED AT HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

HONOLULU-The Hawai'i Tourism Authority (HTA), the state's tourism agency, welcomed the first regularly-scheduled direct flight from China to Hawai'i today. The inaugural China Eastern Airlines flight departed Shanghai on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local time and arrived in Honolulu at 9:50 a.m. HST. Arriving on an Airbus 340-300, passengers were greeted with flower lei, Hawaiian music and hula at a welcome reception at the Honolulu International Airport. China Eastern Airlines' new route will arrive in Honolulu on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9:50 a.m. HST and depart for Shanghai at 11:50 a.m. HST the same day.

"Since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in 2007, the HTA has been aggressively working to secure direct air service from China," said Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the HTA. "Today's landmark flight is wonderful news for Hawai'i's tourism economy, and we remain committed to supporting this new route and developing airlift to meet demand."

The HTA projects that more than 91,000 visitors from China will arrive in 2011, an increase of 37 percent, due in part to the new regularly-scheduled service and three charter flights China Eastern Airlines flew earlier this year between Jan. 30-Feb.10. The route is estimated to provide up to $60 million in annual visitor expenditures, with the average Chinese visitor spending the most at $368 per person per day, and stimulate new job growth in our islands.

Based out of Shanghai, China Eastern Airlines has been operating since 1988 and has grown to become one of the largest airlines in China, connecting 110 cities in China and abroad. Packages offered include stays from three to seven nights through tour companies Ctrip and U-tour. While in Hawai'i, the Chinese visitors itineraries may include visits to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Pearl Harbor, a circle island tour and optional neighbor island packages.

"Hawaiian holidays have been a dream for many Chinese, and Ctrip is committed to promoting Hawai'i through various vacation packages," said Dongji Guo, vice president of Ctrip. "We truly appreciate the support we have received from the Hawai'i government, the HTA and our industry partners here."

Maui-Taste of Lahaina! The best of the best

ATTEN: SMART PHONE USERS. CLICK ABOVE TO VISIT MAUIHAWAIIVACATIONS.COM for the best deals on All condos and Hotels West and South Maui

Lahaina's Culinary Celebration

There's a reason why The Taste of Lahaina is what everyone uses to measure Maui restaurants. With dozens of booths offering samples of their cuisine, it's easy to try all your favorite restaurants as well as some new ones. The Taste of Lahaina is usually held in September of each year at the soccer fields off of Prison Street. The tickets are $5 to get in. The scripts cost $1 each. You use the script to purchase food, rides, drinks, etc... They also offer a ticket for $25 to go on all the rides and the rock climbing wall. The highest end tickets go for $65 and are for VIP status. These tickets we find we're not worth the money this year. With it you get VIP parking, VIP seating, and $30 in script. Basically you pay 30 dollars to park closer and to have tables that other people can't sit at. We found that the closest tables and seats to the stage were in the non-VIP section anyway. Maybe next year they'll make the VIP tickets worth the cash.

Hyatt Pumpkin Ravioli

THE FOOD

This year we had some great restaurants featured. The hit was by the Hyatt. Homemade Pumpkin Ravioli topped with a balsamic reduction and gorgonzola cheeze. It was unbeatable. They also had Bubba Gumps, Makawao Mushrooms, Cheeseburgers in Paradise, Surfing Goat Dairy, Longboards, and the Marriott among many others. Banana encrusted jumbo shrimp, cheeseburgers, tofu salads, barbeque ribs, parfait and brownies, and so much more was available for the tasting. the crowd favorites were obvious judging by the lines. The lines went quickly though. All food ran between 2 and 8 dollars. The drinks were excellent as well.

Some of the best restaurants in Maui were representing their cuisine. Some of the many restaurants and establishments were O'o Farm & Pacific'O, Penne pasta Cafe, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa, Seascape Ma'alaea Restaurant, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Gaby's Pizzeria & Deli, Seahouse Restaurant of the Napili Kai Beach Resort, Jamba Juice, Real Fruit Ice Cream Hawaii, EFM Dessert Catering, Cilantro Fresh Mexican, Maui Kazowie Kettlecorn, Mulligans at the Wharf, Alexander's Fish & Chips, Hawaiian Village Coffee, Roselani Ice Cream, Maui Soda & Ice Works, Chef Sam Choy with the Ka'anapali beach Hotel's Tiki Terrace, Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant & Market, Lahaina Fish Co., Cater 2 U, Roy's Kahana, Longboards Ka'anapali, and Kauai Marriott Resort & beach Club w/MCC.

THE DRINKS

The bar area was situated in a big tent closer to the stage. Once inside, it was easy to get a drink. The later it got, the harder it was to get into the bar area. The line grew large by 8-9pm. Inside, Ocean Vodka was served. This entirely organic Maui Vodka is made with real ocean water from the Big Island. The alcohol is processed on Maui and was released to the public for the first time in 2006. It was smooth, and the cocktails they made were delicious and stiff. Drinks ran fro 5-8 dollars a piece depending on whether you bought beer or cocktails.

THE MUSIC
The music was fantastic. From rock to reggae to traditional Hawaiian, The Taste of Lahaina rocked. They had a radio station there to help MC. Along with the music, many of the musicians had dancers accompany them. The Hawaiian Hula was wonderful and appreciated by the enthusiastic crowd.

THE TENTS
The agricultural tent offered organically grown local food from Maui. As well as farm products for sale, the agricultural tent offered oyster mushrooms from Makawao Mushrooms, Maui coffee from Maui Coffee Association, fresh Maui Gold Pineapple from Maui Pineapple Company, aged and fresh goat cheese from Maui's Upcountry Surfing Goat Dairy, seafood information from the Maui Ocean Center, and fresh tropical fruit from Ono Organic Farms.

THE RIDES
This was kids heaven! The Taste of Lahaina had everything from bouncy gyms to a full size rock climbing wall. This served families well. It wasn't only families that enjoyed the event. Young couples used this as a romantic starting place to enjoy a date. Once the event began to settle down, most of the younger crowd continued to party in Lahaina at the many fun establishments on Front Street.

Overall, the Taste of Lahaina is one of Maui's best events. it's a mellow and fun time for all with the most beautiful views of the West Maui Mountains and sunset over the trees.

Chant Master Krishna Das New Live Concert Album "Heart of Soul" World renowned chant master Krishna Das will mark his first release since joining the Nutone roster with the release of his debut live album Heart Full of Soul. Captured at Yoga Works Larchmont in Los Angeles and spanning over 2 hours in length, the 2-disk set encapsulates the complete live experience of being at a Krishna Das concert. Renowned for making kirtan chant more accessible to Westerners, it was Krishna Das's desire to create a record that would allow people to immerse themselves in a night of kirtan. Heart Full of Soul transports audiences into that space and features the gospel hymn "Jesus on the Main Line", beloved by audiences and available for the first time on CD. As the best selling chant artist of all time, Krishna Das has sold more than 300,000 records, and continues to engage enthusiastic audiences around the world. He has headlined venues from concert halls to yoga studios for sold out crowds in cities across America, throughout Europe and most recently in South America. He has been recording his popular and much-beloved CD's of devotional Indian chants since 1996 as a sharing of his lifetime spiritual journey, especially the practices of Bhakti Yoga-the yoga of devotion-and to kirtan-call-and-response chanting of the divine names. Krishna Das, has been called the "chant master of American Yoga" by The New York Times, and the "Pavarotti of Kirtan" by Yoga Journal. His groundbreaking music is energized with modern grooves and harmonies to create a soulful practice that is eminently accessible to modern hearts, while staying true to the path of Bhakti Yoga.Krishna Das CD's & tour schedule is available at:

You have to read this Magazine. Its the best from recipes to farmer markets on Island

edible Hawaiian Islands: Award winning quarterly magazine, celebrating the abundance of local foods in the Aloha State.
The Hawaiian Islands … images of beauty come to mind. A paradise in the middle of the Pacific. Deep blue seas, lush mountains and rain forests … clean fresh air. Luscious exotic fruits, fish with names you can’t pronounce.
These islands in the past were all about local; we need to encourage it again. Take value in local, seasonal, authentic foods and the many culinary traditions of the Hawaiian Islands. We want to know those who grow, produce, cook and sell those foods. We want to know what’s available on our islands, in terms of great dining, food events and local community farmers markets. Talk Story… the Hawaiian term for sharing information. Let’s Talk Story about old traditions, as well as new ways of preparing some of the exotic produce we have. Let’s Talk Story about how to keep the Hawaiian Islands prospering in healthy agricultural ways.
Sustainable eating (eating locally produced food) … everywhere you look, there are signs, The Hawaiian Islands are in the midst of a local food….. culinary renaissance, and we should all be a part of it. Would you rather eat what has traveled 3000 miles to get to your table, or 50 miles and less?
Filled with engaging stories, enticing photography and art, our mission is to celebrate family farmers, bakers, fisherman, ranchers, poultry farmers, local chefs and the rest of the community for their dedication to producing the highest quality fresh and seasonal foods. We want to highlight those efforts towards a more sustainable and safe food system in The Hawaiian Islands.
Join us in this effort.
We would love to hear from you, do you know someone whom you think merits a mention or an article? Do you have an old family recipe? Help us tell the story of Hawaii’s food culture.
Drop us a line today.

Vacation Sick Syndrome? It's true!

Hurrah! Finally vacation! But why do you have a sore throat? And the blood pressure has got so high and this diarrhea… This is called the vacation syndrome. It occurs due to the alteration of the psyche some days before vacation. About 60% of all grown-up population suffers from this disorder. But fortunately, it’s possible to prevent it. Here’s how.

Get Ready for Vacation
First of all, you need to prepare your body morally for the rest: let yourself as much relaxation as possible the last days before vacation. There’s no way for you to work in a frantic rush trying to perform all your great deal of duties simultaneously and solve all the problems.
No Work during Vacation

Never think about your work during vacation. Your brain should relax – just have your rest! But it doesn’t mean sleeping too long, as one can’t accumulate the sleep, but can easily upset the usual sleep and wakefulness regimen. But this recommendation has nothing to do with siesta (sleep in the early afternoon), as it is highly recommended to build up the strength and calm down the nervous system.

Relax to the Max
But the main recipe of the good vacation is to do absolutely everything you like: eliminate communication with annoying people, eat whatever you like and have as much fun as you want. In short, relax to the max. This will let you feel good, free and healthy long after vacation.

Maui Beaches

Ringed by 120 miles of coastline, Maui boasts over 30 miles of beaches. Many are easily accessible beach parks with lifeguards, picnic facilities and restrooms. Others are undeveloped, pristine, "secret spots" off the beaten path.
All of Maui's beaches feature sparkling crystal-blue waters, tropical tradewinds, and azure skies that go on forever. Most of Maui's beaches have white sand but black and red sand beaches are also a part of our island's inventory.
Several of Maui's beaches are known worldwide for unrivaled surfing and windsurfing conditions. Others are well suited for the beginning snorkeler, beachcombers, families and children. Scroll down this page for an overview of Maui's favorite beaches.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Even though the ocean is Maui's playground there are precautions to observe. Offshore winds and currents can be powerful and they can change suddenly. That means not straying too far from shore or heading out to kayak, windsurf or sail if warning signs are posted, or if conditions warrant caution.
Please understand that the descriptions below are intended only to provide general information about Maui's beaches. Just because a beach is described as being good for beginners, as having good swimming, or as being calm, this does not mean that the beach is right for you. In addition, conditions can change without warning. You must use your own best judgment to determine whether a particular beach is appropriate for you and your ability level.
The folks who know the most about beach and ocean safety in Hawaii, the Hawaii Lifeguard Associaiton, and several State agencies, have put together an excellent website with all the information you need to make your Maui ocean encounters the best they can be.
Click here to check it out.
